💥 Waking Up from Illusion: Non-Dual Realization for the Digital Age
Verses 21 to 30 of the Avadhut Gita are a powerful continuation of Dattatreya’s uncompromising wisdom. These verses go beyond philosophical language to shatter all conceptual identities—ego, body, intellect, even the idea of spiritual practices. They emphasize that Truth is beyond thought and is none other than the Self.
Let’s explore each verse in depth.
🔹 Verse 21
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
Know the formed (visible) to be false, and the formless to be eternal.
Through this teaching of Truth, there is no more rebirth.
Gen Z Insight:
The ego, your online avatar, your 'personal brand'—these are forms.
They are not your real self. When you realize this, the cycle of confusion ends.
🔹 Verse 22
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
Wise ones say Reality is one and equal. With the abandonment of attachment, the one-mind that appears as many ceases to exist.
Gen Z Insight:
Your mind feels scattered—work, dating, social feed, identity.
But that’s illusion of multiplicity. Drop clinging. Find unity.
🔹 Verse 23
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
If something is not-Self, how can there be Samadhi in it? If it is the Self, Samadhi is unnecessary.
If all is One, how can “it is” or “it is not” be applied?
Gen Z Insight:
You don’t need to “get into” a mystical state.
If all is One, what’s there to “attain”? You are already home.
🔹 Verse 24
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
You are the pure, equal Reality—bodiless, unborn, and eternal.
Why do you think, “I know” or “I do not know”?
Gen Z Insight:
Self-doubt and spiritual pride both come from ego.
Knowing and not knowing are both irrelevant to the Self.
🔹 Verse 25
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
Scriptures affirm the Self through statements like “That Thou Art.”
And they negate the unreal five-elemental body with “Not this, not this.”
Gen Z Insight:
True identity isn’t something to create—it’s to be remembered.
“You are That” — not your name, not your body, not your role.
🔹 Verse 26
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
The Self is filled by the Self. You are continuous fullness.
There’s no meditator or meditation. Why does the mind meditate shamelessly?
Gen Z Insight:
When you realize you are the goal, meditation becomes redundant.
Until then, use it—then drop it.
🔹 Verse 27
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
If I do not know Shiva, how can I speak of or worship Him?
If I am Shiva, the Supreme, who is formless and vast like space, how can I even attempt to do so?
Gen Z Insight:
Worship without identity is confusion.
But when you know yourself as Shiva, worship dissolves into being.
🔹 Verse 28
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
“I” is not the Truth; Truth is homogeneous, beyond thought.
Free from subject-object division, how can it even be “self-aware”?
Gen Z Insight:
Your “self” is not an object in awareness.
You are awareness—not the one who’s watching, but the watching itself.
🔹 Verse 29
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
There is no object that is truly infinite or the nature of Truth.
The Self alone is the Supreme. In it, there is neither violence nor non-violence.
Gen Z Insight:
Morality arises only in duality.
The Self is beyond judgment, beyond action.
🔹 Verse 30
Hindi Translation:
English Meaning:
You are pure, homogeneous Reality—bodiless, birthless, changeless.
Why, then, delusion about the Self? Why am I deluded again?
Gen Z Insight:
The final doubt: Why do I keep forgetting who I am?
Even that forgetfulness is just another illusion.
