📘 Chapter 11: Vishwarupa Darshan Yoga (The Universal Form)
Arjuna’s journey comes full circle — from awe to fear, to devotion and apology, and finally, to a heartfelt plea for divine grace and guidance.

सखेति मत्वा प्रसभं यदुक्तं
हे कृष्ण हे यादव हे सखेति |
अजानता महिमानं तवेदं
मया प्रमादात्प्रणयेन वापि ॥11.41॥
यच्चावहासार्थमसत्कृतोऽसि
विहारशय्यासनभोजनेषु |
एकोऽथवाप्यच्युत तत्समक्षं
तत्क्षामये त्वामहमप्रमेयम् ॥11.42॥
Translation (English):
Thinking of You as a friend, I rashly addressed You as "Hey Krishna! Hey Yadava! Hey buddy!" Not knowing Your greatness, whatever disrespect I showed You — whether in play, while resting, sitting, or eating — alone or in front of others — O Incomprehensible One, I beg Your forgiveness.
Translation (Hindi):
मैंने आपको "हे कृष्ण! हे यादव! हे सखे!" कहकर जो अनजाने में, प्रेम या प्रमादवश कहा, और जो कुछ भी मैंने आपके साथ हँसी में, विश्राम, भोजन या बैठने के समय, अकेले में या दूसरों के सामने किया — हे अच्युत! मैं उस सबके लिए आपसे क्षमा माँगता हूँ।

Translation (English):
You are the Father of the world, of all that moves and doesn’t move. You are the most worthy of worship, the greatest teacher. In the three worlds, there is none equal to You — who can be greater?

आप इस चराचर जगत के पिता हैं, पूजनीय हैं, और गुरु से भी बढ़कर हैं। तीनों लोकों में आपके समान या आपसे बढ़कर कोई नहीं है — हे अप्रतिम प्रभाव वाले!

Therefore, bowing down and prostrating my body, I seek Your grace, O Lord, worthy of all praise. As a father to a son, a friend to a friend, or a beloved to a beloved — please forgive me.

इसलिए, मैं शरीर से दंडवत प्रणाम करके, आपको प्रसन्न करने की प्रार्थना करता हूँ — हे ईश्वर, हे पूजनीय! जैसे पिता पुत्र को, मित्र मित्र को, प्रिय प्रिय को क्षमा करता है — वैसे ही मुझे क्षमा करें।

अदृष्टपूर्वं हृषितोऽस्मि दृष्ट्वा
भयेन च प्रव्यथितं मनो मे |

देवेश जगन्निवास विश्वमूर्ते ॥11.45॥
Translation (English):
I am thrilled and terrified, having seen what no one has seen before. Please show me Your familiar divine form, O Lord of gods, O Refuge of the Universe, O Universal Form — be gracious to me.
Translation (Hindi):
मैं पहले कभी न देखे गए रूप को देखकर हर्षित और भयभीत हूँ। इसलिए, हे देवों के स्वामी! हे जगत के आधार! कृपया मुझे आपका वह सौम्य रूप दिखाइए।

किरीटिनं गदिनं चक्रहस्तं

Translation (English):
O Universal Form, I wish to see You again as before — crowned, holding a mace and discus, with four arms. O Thousand-Armed One, show me that form once more.

हे विश्वरूप! मैं आपको उसी रूप में देखना चाहता हूँ — मुकुटधारी, गदा और चक्रधारी, चार भुजाओं वाले रूप में।

Translation (English):
The Blessed Lord said: Out of My grace, O Arjuna, I have revealed to you this supreme, radiant, infinite, and primeval form through My own divine power — a vision no one else before you has ever seen.
Translation (Hindi):
भगवान ने कहा: हे अर्जुन! मेरी कृपा से मैंने तुम्हें आत्मयोग से यह तेजोमय, अनंत, आदि और परम रूप दिखाया है — जिसे तुमसे पहले किसी ने नहीं देखा।

न वेदयज्ञाध्ययनैर्न दानैः
न च क्रियाभिर्न तपोभिरुग्रैः |
एवंरूपः शक्य अहं नृलोके
द्रष्टुं त्वदन्येन कुरुप्रवीर ॥11.48॥
Translation (English):
Neither by study of the Vedas, nor by sacrifices, charities, rituals, or severe penance can anyone else in this human world see the form that you have seen, O best of the Kurus.
Translation (Hindi):
हे कुरुश्रेष्ठ! न वेदों के अध्ययन से, न यज्ञों, दानों, क्रियाओं, या कठिन तपों से यह रूप अन्य कोई मनुष्य देख सकता है — केवल तुमने इसे देखा है।

व्यपेतभीः प्रीतमनाः पुनस्त्वं
तदेव मे रूपमिदं प्रपश्य ॥11.49॥
इत्यर्जुनं वासुदेवस्तथोक्त्वा
स्वकं रूपं दर्शयामास भूयः |
आश्वासयामास च भीतमेनं
भूत्वा पुनः सौम्यवपुर्महात्मा ॥11.50॥
Translation (English):
Do not be afraid or confused by seeing My terrifying form. Be free of fear and with a peaceful mind, behold once again My gentle form.
Having said this, Vasudeva (Krishna) showed Arjuna His usual form and comforted the frightened devotee by appearing in His gentle, pleasing form.
Translation (Hindi):
हे अर्जुन! इस भयावह रूप को देखकर भयभीत या मोहित मत हो। निर्भय और प्रसन्न मन से फिर से मेरा वही सौम्य रूप देखो।
ऐसा कहकर वासुदेव ने फिर से अपना सौम्य रूप प्रकट किया और भयभीत अर्जुन को शांति प्रदान की।

Arjuna said: O Janardana, seeing this gentle human form of Yours, I am now composed again and have regained my natural state.

अर्जुन ने कहा: हे जनार्दन! आपके इस सौम्य मानवीय रूप को देखकर अब मैं शांत हो गया हूँ और अपनी प्रकृति को पुनः प्राप्त कर चुका हूँ।

The Blessed Lord said: This form of Mine that you have seen is very difficult to behold. Even the gods constantly long to see it.

भगवान ने कहा: यह रूप जो तुमने देखा है, उसे देख पाना अत्यंत दुर्लभ है। यहाँ तक कि देवता भी निरंतर इसकी दर्शन की इच्छा करते हैं।

नाहं वेदैर्न तपसा न दानेन न चेज्यया |

Translation (English):
Not by study of the Vedas, nor by austerities, charity, or rituals can I be seen in this form as you have seen Me.

न तो वेदों के अध्ययन से, न कठोर तप से, न दान से और न यज्ञों से इस प्रकार का मेरा दर्शन संभव है — जैसा तुमने मुझे देखा है।

Whoever works for Me, considers Me supreme, is My devotee, free from attachments, and free from hatred toward all beings — he comes to Me, O Pandava.
